We provides an opportunity for veterinarians to carry on advanced studies by the dissemination of new information in ophthalmology and encourages ophthalmologic training in veterinary colleges.The ASVO began in Miami Beach, Florida, in 1957. Dr. W. G. Magrane, the first president, was the principal instigator and chaired the first meeting. The Society’s constitution and bylaws were adopted at the American Veterinary Medical Association Convention in August 1957.The annual business meeting has been held during the American Animal Hospital Associations annual convention. Scientific programs have been presented annually by ASVO members at the AAHA. Programs have also been presented at the AVMA meeting annual meeting, the Western Veterinary Conference and The North American Veterinary Conference.
